black. We are brown but not too brown. We are European enough to
fit into your Eurocentric view of beauty but non-white enough to
be unusual and interesting. We are similar enough to be safe and
different enough to be exciting. Isn't that what you're really
saying? These ideals of light skin and Europeanized features
contribute to the discrimination of darker skinned/non-European
people. Do you realize that when you raise me as an ideal you are
saying that I am more beautiful than my own community of colour?
You divide me from my own people because you position me as more
desirable than they are. In saying this you not only marginalize
mixed race individuals from within their own ethnic communities
but you condemn POC by saying that they are too black, too brown,

Me and this guy who is my best friend have been talking for almost four years. We met online and he lives in Kansas,while I live in New Hampshire. We had crushes on each other and we dated online. Then in summer 2011 we met in real life. We dated and all but when he left we still dated.. And christmas 2011 he came back up. We still dated and stuff but kinda fighted.. Summer 2012 he told me he wanted to date and when he came up he didn't want to because of all the fighting. He recently just visited last week. We are best friends and we tell each other everything.. He flirted a lot with me while he was here though. I am head over heels for this guy but it breaks my heart because he doesn't feel the same. He gives me mixed signals though.. He acts like he likes me but I don't know.. All my friends think he has feelings for me because if he didn't he wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars to come out and see me.. I honestly don't know what to do or how to move on because I truly love him.Me and him fight constantly but we always become friends again. We once didn't talk for 3 months but we both admitted we missed each other. I'm also the only girlfriend he's ever kissed. Please respond and help me, I appreciate it a lot. Thank you so much -hayle
