By My Side
Chapter
Two
"Wait!" the boy shouted, just as I turned to dash
away.
I decided to ignore him, but just before reaching to women's
bathroom, I felt a strong grip on my hand.
"Look," I heard him say, as I turned to face him,
"I'm really sorry."
I nodded, and turned to leave, but he had some other plans.
"Are you sure you're okay?" he asked, yet
again.
Ignoring the stinging as he carefully touched my forehead, I
nodded, not saying a word.
"Well, anyway, I'm Ian." he added, grinning.
I smiled slightly, as he held out his hand.
"Kendall." I replied, shaking his hand.
With the same grin on his face, he looked at my forehead yet
again.
"You know, you should really ice that when you get bad home,
so it doesn't bruise so bad." he suggested.
"Thanks," I mumbled, attempting to finally break free
of this conversation.
It wasn't as much the fact that I was annoyed and embarassed,
but the fact that I really had to use the bathroom.
"So, I guess I'll see around?" Ian said, confused,
as I quickly darted away.
I nodded to him, as I speed walked away.
As I walked back to our table, I groaned quietly at the fact the
Kyla had just got her order taken.
"Don't worry, grumpy, I ordered for you." she
giggled as I slouched into my seat.
I thanked her, and sat a little bit straighter in my seat.
"What took you so long any-Ouch!" she squealed,
probably noticing the huge red bump on my head.
I sighed, crossing my arms, as Kyla looked at me, waiting for an
explaination.
"I just bumped into somebody on the way to the
bathroom." I shrugged, like it was nothing.
Kyla laughed, almost as if she didn't believe me.
"Bump into someone? More like run into a brick
wall, head first." she said, leaning her head back to
laugh.
I rolled my eyes playfully, then laughed along with her.
After looking into the bathroom mirror at the bump, I would have
thought the same thing.
"But seriously, did they at least apologize?" she
asked, in a more serious tone.
I laughed for a few seconds longer, and nodded, without saying a
word.
Knowing my big mouth, if I said anything about how I'd bumped
into "Ian," Kyla would blow this all up into some big
project.
So, knowing that it was for the best, I kept it to myself.
Kyla shrugged, and turned her attention to the platter of food
coming our way.
"Well, at least our foods here!" she laughed.
I smiled, as the waiter set the food before us, and dug right
in.
"Ugh, I'm stuffed." Kyla moaned as we walked onto
the beach.
I laughed, shaking my head disapprovingly, "Looks like you
shouldn't have ordered dessert."
Kyla nodded, agreeing with me.
"Next time, slap me until I decide not to order
more food." she whined, tossing her things on the sand.
By nodding, I agreed, and followed her, and placed my things
neatly on the sand.
"So, what should we do? Tan then swim, or swim then
tan?" she asked, and, like always, I chose to swim
first.
At first, Kyla was reluctant to go, but, as usual, she finally
gave in.
"Hey, why don't we join that volleyball game?" she
suggested, as we swam with the waves.
I shrugged, not minding her idea.
They looked like a bunch of teenagers like us. We were bound to
know at least some of them.
"Let's go!" she quickly said, tugging me out of the
water by my wrist.
I smiled lightly, and rolled my eyes playfully.
That's Kyla for you. Jumping as quickly out of one thing as
she does into another. She's just to quick-minded for me to
handle.
Sometimes, I don't understand how the two of have remained
friends for years upon years.
Maybe it's because it's because opposites attract. Kyla
and I? We're polar opposites.
From the color of our hair, to our favorite movie, you'd
rarely find anything similar between us.
Who knows, it could also be the fact that we'd grown so
close, without each other, we'd be not-
"Kendall, is that you?" A familiar voice said.
Oh brother.
-Well, I'm kind of starting to like this story a bit.
I hope you guys do too!
