It took me a few more minutes to calm Jamie down, after I did, I fed him and then let him play for a bit as I was getting ready for school. It was my first day and when I thought of that, it sent chills down my spine – I was nervous. I took a shower, and then put on skinny jeans, a white top and grey cardigan, and a pair of grey sneakers. I was also wearing the heart necklace and a bracelet my dad got me when I was just a little girl.

I grabbed my bag, took Jamie and headed for the door, grabbing a bag of chips I'd eat instead of breakfast on my way out. I went up to our neigbours' house and knocked on the door. Me and Jamie were lucky mr. and mrs. Winklewoss were our neighbours – they were extremely kind, and they agreed to watch him while I was in school. I dropped Jamie off and made my way towards the school, which was just a few blocks away, daydreaming the whole way there. When I arrived, I approached the main building, and went into the office labeled 'Management', just like I was told to. I knocked and went in. The woman behind a counter greeted me with a smile. „Hello, can I help you?“
„Hi, my name is Haley Tyler.“ I said and smiled. „I'm a new student, and I was told to report to this office.“
„Oh, why hello Haley.“ She said and started digging through a pile of things. „Here you go, I printed out your schedule – next to every lesson you have the room number it'll be held in, and here is your locker key.“ She explained, and handed me the mentioned things. „Your locker is near the entrance, the 10th one, on the left.“
„Alright, thank you!“ I replied. She wished me a nice first day and put on another warm smile. I tried to return the gesture and walked out. I opened my bag of chips and put some in my mouth, looking at my schedule. My first class was Maths with mr. Rodger in room 216. I'd have to ask someone where that is. I figured I should probably head to my locker now. I found it and dropped off my things, looking at my schedule one more time. Then I saw a boy coming my way. He had dark brown hair and sapphire blue eyes, which immediately caught my attention. He stopped at his locker – which was right next to mine. Perhaps he could tell me how to get to room 216?
„Excuse me,“ I said „I'm Haley, I'm a new student here and I was wondering if you could-„
He shut his locker and looked at me.
„I don't care.“ He said coldly.
I felt as if he poured freezing water over me. Did I say something wrong? Embarrased, I opened my locker and started going through it, not knowing what I'm searching for. The blue eyed boy didn't look at me again, he went up to a large, loud group where a girl threw herself at him. Oh. I just bothered someone from the 'popular' crowd. As I was thinking, someone lightly tapped me on the shoulder. It still scared me and made me jump.
„I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!“ said a dirty-blonde haired boy with warm green eyes.
„It's okay“ I said with a shaky voice.
„I overheard your conversation, if you can say that, with that boy. Don't beat yourself up over it – that's Nathan, he's a jerk to everyone.“ He said and shook his head.
„O-oh, okay.“ I said, confused.
„Oh, by the way, I'm Derek“ he smiled warmly and outstretched his hand. „You're new?“
I pulled myself together now, and returned his smile.
„Yeah. I'm Haley, nice to meet you Derek.“ I said and shook his hand. „Could you show me where room 216 is?“
„Sure. Lets go.“
Maybe it wasn't going to be a bad day after all.
