Chapter
Three.
I
didn't do much later on that night. It was Friday so I
didn't get to bed until around 12:00 o'clock that
night. Actually I didn't go to bed that night at all.
Because as soon as I sat on my bed I heard a scary tapping.
It was light, but loud enough so that I could hear it. I
walked slowly to my window, expecting it to burst open. I
opened my mini blinds to see Devon just standing there
like an idiot. ((my room was on the first floor)) I gave
him quite a glare, one: for ditching me earlier. and two:
for giving me a midnight heart attack. Finally I just
opened the window.
"What." I said blankly.
"Come with me."
His blue eyes were intense boring into mine.
"Where?! It's midnight...?"
I was trying not to give in as much as I'd love to run
away with him anywhere.
"Just come on. Let's go to the park." He was
serious.
"Ugh, fine.." I said serious at first but then
started to laugh as I slid open my window. I crawled out
and would've fallen to the ground if Devon had not
caught my elbow. I gently shut my window and we walked to
the street to his car. Thank god we were sophomores and he
could drive. Or we would be walking in the chilled, last
September night all the way to the park.
Once there we got out and headed for the swings. We had a
contest to see who could swing the highest. We tied. We
glittered the night with our laughter. It rang through the
trees and it sounded magical as it echoed. After swinging
we raced for the slide, we wrestled each other to get to
the top first. He almost fell off once and I almost fell
off twice. I don't know how but we managed to slide
down at the same time, and collapse in a heap at the
bottom. Once we finished laughing he leaned in...WOAH! He
was getting closer, closer closer....
"Bottoms up, bottoms up, throw your hands up, bottoms
up!" Of course his phone had to be on full
blast.
"Hello?"
He mouthed that it was a restricted number to me. Then I
could hear what was being said. And by who.
"DEVON! I miss you boo! You're love, the way you
hold me, your perfect lips, the way I love you! Let's
hook up! I love you!"
It was Alexia. Of course it was. I sighed. He didn't
even respond. Simply hung up and put the phone in his
pocket. Then after getting up off the ground and taking a
second to bat off the dirt and pine needles, he took my
hand and pulled me up. I dusted off my sweat pants and my
tank top. He didn't try and kiss me again
then.
"Should I ask?" I said.
"We broke up shortly after you left. Because you were
right. Evidently I was acting although she
was more important then my best friend, when she
isn't."
I smiled and looked down. When I looked back up at him, he
was smiling too. His eyes, blue as ice crystals, were
glowing. We walked back to the car.
Once I was home, I opened my window quietly once more and
with the help from Devon, crawled in. I shut my door and
turned on my light. I leaned out of the window and hugged
him. We weren't going out like we would if it was a
movie, we always hugged each other before one of us left it
was a best friend thing. But then again we almost kissed
less then an hour ago.
Once he left I spun in circles to my bed shut off my light,
and burrowed under neath the sheets and fell
asleep smiling.
