A Day To Remember
Prologue
The
day before my 16th birthday was one I'll never
forget.
It
was June 7th, 2006. The time where leopard print with red shoes
was the "it style", and where Justin Timberlake,
Nelly, and Rihanna were the biggest and newest artists in the
country.
But
for me, it was the first day of the rest of my life. Or at
least that's what I thought then. I was one day away from
my 16th birthday, and I was going to have the BEST sweet
sixteen party ever. Even bigger than Stacy Cummings's party
was the month before. It was all planned. My entire high school
was invited. I needed this party, it was the one thing I could
do to make myself popular. Freshman year was coming to an end,
and I barely got by with my best friend Shelby by my
side.
Shelby Rae; the most beautiful
girl on earth. (I secretly think she's an angel) I met her
in Kindergarten, and she's stuck by my side ever since.
Shelby played volleyball, and was star of the track team,
giving her the potential of being the most popular girl at
Truman High School. But she didn't want that attention.
Stacy did. And lucky for Shelby, Stacy loved Shelby. But, she
hated me. We've been enemies since 2nd grade when I drew
all over her American Girl doll with a purple crayon. But, hey!
I only did it because she was the only girl who could afford
one, and she bragged about it, too! I also hate her because
she's dating her long-time boyfriend, Jordan
Wright.
Jordan. Don't even get me
started about him. We met in preschool, our mom's were best
friends. He was my neighbor, too. To me, he was Justin
Timberlake, maybe even better. He was the boy-next-door. I fell
in love with him the day he moved in. Unfortunately, he's
had his eyes fixed on Stacy since first grade. He should thank
me though, I got him where he is today. He didn't have a
dad, he left Jordan and his mom when Jordan was only three
months old. So my dad was like a father to him. He taught him
football, made him rake our leaves, even bought him his first
car. My dad, Ryan Peterson, is a wonderful man. Never once did
he complain, or show us how tired he was. He is a great person.
I miss him. He left for Iraq when I was 7. When the world was
perfect, and I didn't have a single care in my life, then
my dad left. The Jordan met Stacy. And my mom lost her job. And
my dog, Taffy died. I couldn't get up in the morning. I
cried myself to sleep. I was like that for at least a year. And
I had no one. My mom was always gone at job interviews. Jordan,
my best friend at the time, left me for football and Stacy. My
dad was overseas, and Shelby was in Africa, doing missionary
work with her parents. I became very
independent.
Back to the present, 9th grade
was almost over. I got through it with Shelby by my side. I
don't understand why she never left me for the popular
crowd. She knew she could, but she never
did.
My
house looked amazing; disco balls, strobe lights, Rihanna
music, and all the food and drinks you could imagine. If
everyone I invited showed up, this would be the party of the
decade! I had to invite Stacy, unfortunately. I knew if she
wouldn't come, there would be no chance of Jordan
coming.
Next thing I knew, the door bell
rang. I opened my front door and saw hundreds of
people waiting outside. Let the party begin!
(:
