// Puddles in the Rain \\
Chapter
24
"Hey Hil."
Drew took his lips off of me and smiled at Hilary.
"Hi, I'm Drew."
Hilary flashed him a smile, but then turned back to me with that
confused look.
"I thought you said you didn't have a
boyfriend."
"I don't!"
I said automatically, to quick to think before I said it.
"Do you usually let guys kiss you like that?"
I sighed and she frowned, her eyes turning sad.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Her voice was quiet and soft, and every word hurt me even
more.
"Hilary I'm so sorry."
She looked at me with disappointment, then turned to Drew.
"How long have you been dating?"
"5 months."
Hilarys eyes opened wider and turned back to me, her hands on her
hips.
"You were dating for 5 months and you haven't told
me?"
Her eyes were full of tears, but full of anger.
"I thought we were best friends!"
"We are Hil! I just couldn't tell you."
She rolled her eyes and a tear rolled down her cheek.
"Why? Why not?"
I looked down, and my voice was caught in my throat.
"I can't tell you."
She let out a huff and cocked her hip out a little bit.
"You used to trust me. What happened? What did I
do?"
Her voice cracked and more tears fell down her face. I reached
out and held onto her arm, but she took it off like my hand had
burned her.
"Hilary you did nothing wrong."
She looked away and took in a deep breath, and when she looked
back at me, her eyes were red, her makeup smearing.
"You know this has happened to me before. I can't do
this again."
She did already go through this, someone lyring to her. Hilary
had a good friend before she moved here, and she did something
behind her back. She was dating Hilarys boyfriend. Even when she
asked her bout what she were doing, she lied like I had did. When
she came home one night, her friend accidentally butt dialed her,
and she could hear her boyfriend talking to her like he did to
After I thought about this, I had gone through the same thing,
almost to the point.
"I know. I'm sorry."
She shook her head and let out a small laugh, wiping under her
eyes.
"No, you know you're not. Now, excuse me."
She pushed me out of the way and ran away from me, wiping her
eyes the whole way. I turned to look at Drew but he was gone, as
was the rain. I felt tears crawl into my eyes and I walked out
the way that Hilary had gone, and luckilly the space was still
empty. I ran out of the house and out of the yard, out to my car.
I unlocked it as I was running and as I got to the car, I got in
the car and I swung the door open and hopped in. As soon as my
butt hit the chair, the tears overflowed and my voice was
choking. I wish Drew didn't leave, as well as Hilary. I
needed Drew with me, to hold me and listen to me. But, he
wasn't, and I know what I needed. I needed my best friend
back.
