CHAPTER 22: THE END

Lauren & I sat in the courtroom.
Everything had been cleared up so quickly; I couldn't believe it.
Braydon was sitting at the front with a lawyer, and I couldn't help but smile whenever we locked eyes. I wanted to cry.
A window was open & a light breeze flew through the room.
We listened to evidence being presented, and it flew by in a blur.
Lauren and Kendall had hired a man to kidnap Braydon when he angrily left the beach, because they had planned that too. Braydon had no knowledge of anything that happened, and he was tied and left in a shed somewhere outside of town, where Kendall tended to him about once every 2 days. The girls didn't state any motives, but clearly they were crazy. Who would kidnap a fellow peer, an ex boyfriend? Anyways, I didn't hear their sentence or anything. But I knew they were expelled from school. Done with that. Kendall was still my neighbor, but I didn't know if I'd ever get a chance to talk to her again. So everything was finished. It seemed like such a stupid, unromantic, silly story. Two of my supposed friends kidnapped the boy I was practically in love with. Cool story; like no one cares. But I cared. And I was proud of myself.
I awoke from my thougths with the smack of the judge's gavel.
I ran outside of the room and almost threw myself at Braydon. I started crying as we hugged for what felt like forever.
"I missed you so much," I told him.
"Mia, I missed you too, and there's so much I have to say to you but-"
I cut him off. "I know. I already know."
He smiled at me, and nothing could have prepared me for what happened next.
He kissed me, right there in front of everyone, and it wasn't like the last time. This time was even better because we could show the world who we were and what we loved: each other.
~ 1 month later ~
Dusk was falling.
It had been a beautiful day.
Braydon and I sat on the pier, oh, the pier. We had met only 3 months ago, but it seemed like I'd known him forever. I was now proud to officially call Braydon my boyfriend, and I couldn't have been happier. My parents suddenly became figures in my life. Lauren and I were close as ever, and who says teenagers can't be in love? I was, and this was the most perfect boy ever.
I squeezed his hand.
He looked over and smiled that killer smile that made me melt.
"Mia, in the time you've been here, you have changed me.. it's just.. I'm so glad you came to Florida."
"Me too," I said. "Me too."
"Braydon?" I said after a moment.
"Mhm?"
"If you ever leave, I don't know what I'll do. How could I ever forget this year, what's happened? To tell you the truth, you'll be on my mind forever. You truly are unforgettable."
"I love you," he said simply.
"I love you too. Forever and always."
And we sat like this until the sun went down.
